A few people have reached out inquiring about loads per day (LPD) of the largest 1,000 freight brokerages. We did a bit of estimating and these are our results.
- Top 1,000 freight brokerages ship 250,000 to 300,000 loads per working day.
- The top 7% of the top 1,000 freight brokerages ship 70%, a little over 150,000, of thos daily loads.
- The top 2% have a median daily load count of 1,836, while the bottom two-thirds of the top 1,000 have a median of 41 loads per day.
- 2023 gross revenues for the industry will likely be around $140 billion. A 15% to 20% drop compared with Armstrong & Associates estimate of $159 billion in 2022.

In total, the top 1,000 control about 250k to 300k of loads per day. The top 7% of this group control about 70% of those daily loads. While the industry is highly fragmented with 28k active brokerages, scale is highly concentrated at the top.
The top 5% move an estimated 1,836 loads per day, while the bottom two-thirds of the largest 1,000 freight brokers move a median of 41 per day.
Based on our analysis it looks like gross revenue in 2023 will be about 20% less than 2022. Dropping to somewhwere around $140b compared to estimates of $159b in 2022 from Armstrong & Associates.
