September 2024 shows another decline in freight brokers

In September 2024, 237 freight brokerages went inactive, bringing the total number of active freight brokerages down to 25,979. Year over year, the number of freight brokerages has dropped by -11.8% and -16.7% compared to two years ago.

The market continues to face challenges as excess trucking supply remains a pressing issue for both brokers and carriers. Sustained rate increases are unlikely unless we observe more trucking exits or a significant boost in load volumes.

Here is a snapshot of the market changes over the years:
– 6-Month: (-5.4%)
– 1-Year: (-11.8%)
– 2-Year: (-16.7%)
– 3-Year: (-6.1%)
– 4-Year: 14.1%
– 5-Year: 23.0%
