June data shows continuing slump for freight brokerages

2024 continues its rough year for freight brokerage growth. The net change in freight brokerages (New active authorities minues inactive authorities) continues to spiral.

The only time period worse was is in 2013 when 7,991 authorities went inactive before the minimum on surety bonds were raised.

For declines during freight market slumps though we are going through the worst slump right now. In fact, during the Great Recession, there were only two months of triple digit dips in freight brokerage net numbers from 2008 to 2011.

Are we battling through what in the future will be called the Great Freight Recession. If the current freight market doesn’t rebound later this year or next, it would likely go down as the Great Freight Depression.
